Our goal in the Power Porridge Program is to feed hungry children; to encourage the students to see school as beneficial, fun, and a place for their extended family. Not only have we have shown that providing a substantial meal increases attendance, it also triggers perceptions of learning which in turn enhances the students’ readiness to learn. Growing

Our goal in the Shamba Program is to help school and community volunteers to grow enough food within the school grounds to provide enough food for the students to have lunch every day they are in school; plus enough to trade in local markets to provide sufficient funding for operations of the school shamba’s. We hope also to engage the students in the management of the shamba to enhance what they learn about agriculture in the classroom and from within their family structures. We will use modern, low tech, climate resilient framing practices to reduce stress on staff, facilities, land, and water resources such as wind & solar power, drip irrigation systems, no-till farming, permaculture, etc. Children that participate in the growing of their own food provides hope…
Learning
Our goal for student learning is to increase graduation rates so that more students are prepared to advance to the secondary school of their choice. We want graduation rates to be as high as possible. Book learning is critically important in all civil societies but equally important is the learning of cultural and traditional values whether at home or school.
